A Valentine's Day wedding without a hint of red in sight? Gasp! But, isn't it gorgeous? Sometimes the whole red & white or red & pink combo on Valentine's Day can be a little predictable. Plus, for a wedding, it can be a little over-the-top. I don't think a Valentine wedding has to be (or should be) so cliche. Instead, go for something more subtle, and far more romantic! Lace, pearls, bows, soft pinks, and greens are way more tasteful, not to mention more beautiful.

To make it feel more like Valentine's Day, why not add some SUBTLE heart details into the decorating. I stress the word "subtle" because that's the part that's absolutely crucial. You don't want your wedding to end up looking like a fourth grade classroom during a V-day party. In small doses, however, hearts will help your guests get the point (without hitting them over the head with V-day craziness), and you'll have some adorable details that they'll appreciate. And if your wedding isn't exactly ON Valentines day, this look will still help you pull off the V-day feel without going overboard. What if your wedding isn't anywhere near Valentine's day? Leave out the heart details and just focus on the color palette – it'd make a fantastic spring wedding.

Wedding Gowns: Splurge or Save?

There's no denying the fact that designer dresses are beautiful. The material, the craftsman ship, the name brand – everything is designed to give the bride a dress she will never forget. For many of us, however, the price tag that goes along with these dresses is a little outrageous. If you can afford to spend $5,000+ on a dress, and it's that important to you, then by all means go for it! But for the rest of us, this just isn't an option. And for me, that's OK. I don't need or even want to spend that kind of money on a dress that I will wear one day. I'm way too frugal to even consider it!

Luckily, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a beautiful gown. There are so many gorgeous dresses out there that cost less than $1,000, some are far less. And odds are, most people won't even know or care that you're not wearing Vera Wang or Lazaro. All your guests are going to be focused on is how pretty you look. A more expensive dress doesn't mean that isn't a more gorgeous dress. You can look just as beautiful in something that's a fraction of the cost!

Got your heart set on a designer dress that you can't afford? Take a look at some of these. It proves that you can find a similar dress for far less. All you've got to do is look around and you'll find something you love that's within your budget. And, honestly, I like some of the cheaper dresses more. Go figure!

Unconventional Gowns Part II

Even those of us who tend to have a more traditional sense of style HAVE to admit that there's something so refreshing about a bride who isn't afraid to stand out – a girl that is confident enough in her own skin to rock a dress that is "different." I mean, your wedding day should be about YOU. And if you don't want to wear the typical long, white dress, then don't! Show of your personality. Be bold. Be unique. Be you!

Here are some ladies who dare to be different. Their dresses are far from the usual, but aren't they gorgeous? While it may not be for me, I give these girls big kudos for having a sense of style that reflects who they are. Lovely!

Wedding Braids

Lately, it seems as if the entire female population is obsessed with braids. You see them everywhere: on celebrities, at the mall, on the runway, and on BRIDES. And I must say, I totally get it. A braided hairstyle has endless possibilities, and can go from sleek and sophisticated, to fun and funky, to laid back. Whatever kind of look you're going for on your big day, you could find a way to work a braid in there somewhere! Not only that, but they're easy to do. Even the more complicated ones are fairly simple once you find some instructions on how to do it. Regular braid, fishtail braid, french braid, waterfall braid...they all rock!


If you are already planning on doing your own hair for your wedding, this is a great way to add a little pizazz to an everyday hairdo. Or, take one of these pictures to your hairdresser so she can recreate exactly what you want. Either way, go for the braid!
